Financial Cost of a Bad Hire

The information below details the ABA Registration (Irish Nursing Boards) process for nurses trained in the EU. It is a step by step and page by page break down. There is also an explanation video coming soon.

We hope you find this helpful but if you have any questions please let us know and we will answer any questions you have. We have English, Polish, Romanian and Hungarian nationals on staff so please let us know which language you would like a call back in.

Step 1:
If you send us a copy of your CV highlighting your Qualifications making sure to show the exact date you started your nursing studies, the name of the qualification you received and also highlighting your experience with exact dates we will be able to contact you to let you know if you meet with EU Directives, which one and the steps to take for registration.

Step 2:
The second step of the process is ordering the actual application form. Unfortunately this cannot be done online at the moment and needs to be done by post. You can download the application form here.

(EU Application Form)

Once you have downloaded this form you can print it and fill it in, you will need to use a black pen and use block capitals. With the Irish nursing board the €200 payment needs to made at the very beginning of the process and this can be done by filling in your credit card details in the box provided or by cheque, postal order, bank draft made payable to An Bord Altranais. Once completed the form should be returned to An Bord Altranais, 18/20 Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock, Co Dublin, Ireland

Step 3:
You will receive the full ABA application form within 2 weeks of making the payment, if there are any delays we will be able to check this for you as long as you have filled in our details on the form. Once you receive the form you will notice that there is a unique ID number on the top right hand corner. You will need to take a note of this number as you will need it for any communication with the Nursing Board.

Step 4:
Read through the form carefully to make sure you fully understand what is required on every page. Please take a moment to watch our instruction video which goes through the application page by page. You can also call us if you have any questions or use the link below to request a call back.

Step 5:
We would suggest that you photocopy this form and fill in pages 1 to 16 on the copy, remembering to sign and date page 15, you can email us a scanned copy of the completed form if you would like us to check it for you.

Step 6:
Once checked and confirmed there are no errors or information missing you will then complete the original form provided by ABA. You will need to get

  1. Certified copy of your Birth Certificate
  2. Certified copy of the picture page of your Passport
  3. Certified copy of your Marriage Certificate / Divorce Certificate / Deed Poll (if applicable)
  4. Certified copy of your current Registration Certificate
  5. 2 recent passport-size photos (with your name and reference number on the reverse side)

Any of these documents that are not in English will need to be accompanied by an original sworn translation.

All these documents along with the completed application form will then be sent to: An Bord Altranais, Overseas Registration, 18/20 Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock, Co Dublin, Ireland

Step 7:
Assuming we have advised you that you meet with EU Directives you will then only need to have Form C from the back of the application completed and will not need to complete forms A and B. Your form C will need to be completed by every Nursing Board you hold registration and not just your Home Country and then sent by them directly to the Irish Nursing Board.

For Romanian Nurses Form C also needs to be filled out by the Ministry of Health.

This process can be slightly different based on you education, country of training and the date you started you nurse training. We will be able to speak to every candidate on a one to one basis regarding this and advise you appropriately.
